New Canaan Sculpture Trail

The New Canaan Land Trust (NCLT) and Carriage Barn Arts Center teamed up to present The New Canaan Sculpture Trail, a significant outdoor art installation celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, featuring eight juried works of outdoor sculpture at seven select NCLT preserves and the front courtyard of the Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan’s Waveny Park. The program unites and advances the missions of both organizations which are “to foster a connection between the community and its natural resources,” and “to enrich the community through exhibitions, education, and cultural experiences.” The New Canaan Sculpture trail will amplify these missions by inviting an array of regional artists to interpret the national milestone of Earth Day at 50 years and express it through sculpture—all against the backdrop of distinct Land Trust preserves.

Deliverables: logo design, branding style guide, ad templates, microsite: sculpture.newcanaanlandtrust.org

Role: Art Director, Designer

“The New Canaan Land Trust hired Julianne to develop the branding of our first-time outdoor art exhibition — the New Canaan Sculpture Trail. Timed to the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, this exhibition was created by our 50+ year-old conservation non-profit organization in partnership with the Carriage Barn Arts Center, also based in New Canaan, CT.

Julianne was tasked with creating a logo and brand expression that captured the essence of our inaugural and contemporary exhibition. The branding project involved an extensive range of deliverables — different formats, logos and logo lock-ups with and without a tagline, vertical and horizontal executions and a detailed style guide.

We were thrilled with the results.  The branding was unique, distinctive and contemporary. All elements were developed and delivered in a timely fashion. The style guide far exceeded expectations;  it guided the development of all the marketing and support materials that supported the exhibition.  We are delighted that we choose Julianne to take on this important role of creating the look and feel of this new brand — and program.

We have no doubt that when we decide to run this sculptural exhibition again, we will continue to use the New Canaan Sculpture Trail branding toolkit. Thanks to Julianne.”
