48in48 Global Virtual Event October 2-4, 2020

I recently completed a busy weekend volunteering on a team for the 48in48 global design virtual. Centered around a 48-hour hackathon-style event, 48in48 connects local nonprofits and skilled marketing and technology professionals. At the end of these 48 hours, 48 local nonprofits have new, professional, website and a fresh marketing strategy.

OVERVIEW:

Following a brand refresh and ahead of a new app/tool launch, SURVIVEiT’s current marketing website feels outdated. The 48 in 48 Global Virtual Event is an opportunity for SURVIVEiT to receive a new fresh, modern, clean website that will not only provide a more attractive experience for front-end users, but will provide a more organized and approachable experience for backend admins of the CMS.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Create awareness about and engagement with the COPiLOT app (browser beta visits, app downloads, membership/signups)

  • Establish industry credibility to encourage monetary donations and partnerships/sponsors (clicks, actual donation dollar amounts, increase in partnerships/sponsors)

  • Foster more and stronger relationships between users and the brand (resource downloads, newsletter signups, social follows, blog pageviews)

DESIGN SOLUTIONS:

Contact form: Make the contact page more efficient and friendly. Continue defining and projecting the brand voice through copy and guide users with a dropdown menu to route their specific issues/questions by subject.

Donate functionality: Three pathways for different types of donors and clearly direct them through the process. Figure out backend functionality of integrating CommitChange with donor management system.

Resource Downloads: Card designs to break out key resources into clear sections for the user to digest and follow. More prominate way to define the choices and find the specific resource area by lead-in/editorial copy vs menu selection.

Promote CoPilot app: Since CP already had a marketing landing page, we used those assets to link to all of the CP information. Next steps would be to bring the CP info onto the main SurviveiT site as a page.

Brand: Extend color palette to meet accessibilty standards for contrast. Create a calm, hopeful, humanity-focused voice, look, and feel based on the brand pillars.

LEARNINGS AND REFLECTION:

Designing a website with this amount of content and goals was a tall order in 48 hours! Our team had to really work at balancing our desire to follow best practice and our usual process approaches with the time constraints and delivering the MVP containing the agreed upon requirements.

Often our discussions led to ideas and extensions that were out of scope but will be necessary and effective in the next iteration, and we had to set those aside as a recommendations doc and keep moving forward to meet our 48 hour deadline!

Overall 48in48 was an intense and amazing opportunity to jump in and work with a great team of people solving problems and providing a non-profit with the design and marketing help they need. I am proud of what our team accomplished and we had a  fun time working together!
